Yesterday’s blog post on victimization by Bill O’Grady inspired me to create the below infographic. Providing safe and affordable housing is an important step in reducing the victimization of young people experiencing homelessness.

This week’s infographic Wednesday is original content from the Homeless Hub’s recent report A Safe and Decent Place to Live: Towards a Housing First Framework for Youth. This report was the result of collaboration between the Homeless Hub, the National Learning Community on Youth Homelessness and the Street Youth Planning Collaborative.                 

This infographic by Food Banks Canada was part of the HungerCount report. The report states that while there was a drop of approximately 40,000 food bank users between 2012 – 2013, there were 833,000 food bank users in Canada.

This infographic, created by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, compares the rates of child poverty across Canada by province. Only the jurisdictions with large enough samples to be representative were included in the infographic (as you’ll notice the Atlantic provinces and territories were omitted).                                                                                                         

The National Council for Behavioral Health is an organization that represents U.S. community mental health and substance use organizations. This infographic is a very important resource for service providers supporting people who are experiencing homelessness. The information in this infographic is based on research from the United States, however there are several points that can be applied within the Canadian context. They are as follows:

Employment is becoming a growing concern for youth and younger Canadians. This infographic is based on findings from the recent New Deal for Young People report by the Broadbent Institute. The Broadbent Institute carried out an extensive poll with 983 Millennials (aged 20-30) and 1,064 Boomers (aged 50-60) with at least one child.

This infographic effectively demonstrates the results of a one-time snapshot survey that was done with 10 service organizations across Canada. The organizations are located in Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and St. John’s.  There is an ongoing need for mental health services for youth experiencing homelessness in Canada, as seen in this infographic.
